Cisco is making the most of unofficial Star Wars Day with a May the Fourth release of what it calls Galaxy Mode for its AI Assistant. This update, available only until June 4, aims to help IT teams operate, troubleshoot, and secure their networks more efficiently.
Galaxy Mode transforms the login screens of Meraki and Thousand Eyes management products with a Starfield backdrop reminiscent of the opening of Star Wars films. The voice prompt adopts a Yoda-like tone: "Down, the network is. Check the logs, you must." Numerous hidden Easter eggs are included to brighten the day while solving real-world issues.
One of the key new features is Deep Reasoning, still in beta. This capability allows the AI Assistant to interpret network events and provide rapid analysis for security audits and planning tasks. Aruna Ravichandran, senior vice president and CMO for AI, Networking, and Collaboration at Cisco, explained that Deep Reasoning tracks signals across domains like a veteran engineer, sensing how a misconfigured policy in one area can cause ripples elsewhere. It reveals its chain of reasoning so teams can understand why it reached a particular conclusion.
Another feature is the automatic generation of agentic workflows. This cross-domain, low-code/no-code automation tool is built directly into the Meraki Dashboard. Users can describe a task in natural language, and the system drafts a plan, hands it back for approval, and then builds the executable workflow. This turns intent into execution automatically. For example, a user can ask, "Can you generate workflow to expand the DHCP pool for my network?"
Galaxy Mode also simplifies the process of spotting and fixing network problems. The path from alert to resolution is condensed into a single conversation window. The AI Assistant acts as a co-pilot, pointing out issues, narrating steps, suggesting actions, and executing when given the nod. Features like AI RRM, packet capture, packet analysis, and configuration recommendations are now easily accessible through simple voice or text commands.
Cisco promises that upcoming announcements from Cisco Live will expand these capabilities further. The company emphasizes that while generative AI is still young and can make mistakes, expert IT professionals can evaluate its output for accuracy. The Galaxy Mode release is a fun yet practical way to enhance network management during the Star Wars celebration.
